2018
Simo, a professor of industrial design at Aalto University, approached us with a great idea: put the best designers to work and make Meeko the main subject of the “form exploration” course.
From the beginning, Meeko has been an innovative electric skateboard brand that believes in quality and design. So the decision was easy and obvious, get to work and work!
The years 2018 and 2019 were with industrial design students looking for and developing blank spaces for development, materials, mechanisms, ideas. The main task was to create ideas and thoughts related to electric skates, their ease of use and durability, and the clarity of maintenance.
Bottom line: Don't reinvent the wheel, build from the best to the best. On a general level, however, we gave quite a bit of freedom in terms of the design itself, “to freely challenge urban light traffic”.
Twelve talented industrial design students at the master's level from around the world were selected for the one-year course. The citizens involved were, for example, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, China, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Together we look for important and main objectives and lines and list the 4 most important in French lines:
- sustainable values
- New ideas and design
- Use of interesting materials
- A working entity
The world of electric skateboards / scouts needs real values.

We start the work ourselves with extensive market and user research. We wanted to get a complete picture of electric skates in particular at the time. The goal is always to do something a little different and better. The user survey provided a good lunch for that.

Some of the designers prototyped their own concepts.

The intense set of the year culminated in a 2-week open house. The exhibition was held at the mobile phone operator's flagship store in Elisa, Helsinki city center. The project challenged and taught a lot. We are already using several ideas in our current models. The largest entities are already in a promising stage of completion. This project with smart and innovative students was really rewarding, and there is no doubt that the best designers will really add value to Meeko in the future. Until the end as a basic Latvian that could be put at the end of all stories
Meeko Mobi was founded in 2018 in Finland. We currently operate in Spain and the Czech Republic as well as Finland.
